Thank you for the sound advice. I am just about to create my first paperback, so this came at the perfect time. I would suggest doing the paperback first.

And you get a proof copy or several early on. But trying to save time and effort by having a POD printer crank out an ebook file is a big mistake, as Laurie points out.

Good point. Mainly because I like to launch at my local independent bookstore, with an assist from local media, so I need to get them print copies well in advance. So I create the two files concurrently and publish them at the same time. Being on a zombie binge myself lately, I've had to suffer through alot of just plain bad books, but this one is a keeper mostly because the offbeat friendship between the two main characters is fun and dare I say it The addition of the zombie killing "angels" at first put me off a bit, but it fit nicely into this odd story.

If not, I suggest hiring an expert in book cover design. The best book size is that standard book size of 6 x 9—at least that is the most popular size. These are the main standard sizes that you may expect to be accepted at all, if not most of the bookstores and all online venues. Interior design refers to the inside of the book. If you are self-publishing, you must create the complete manuscript PLUS front and back matter to printer specifications in a digital file. This file is a layout reprentations of how the inside of the book will look.

The interior layout must include headers, page numbers, chapter headings, front matter and back matter—and a design using fonts and graphics that flows from the book cover.
